About

Tibetan Writers Abroad PEN was established in 1999 in Dharamsala and currently has 68 members, mostly based in India but also spread across Europe and the US.  Writers in Tibet are also affiliated with the Centre.  As a Centre in exile, their priority is to preserve the written and spoken Tibetan language.  The Centre publishes a newspaper that includes traditional literature and poetry, as well as social and political commentary with students and teachers as the intended audience.  The Centre also carries out a regular programme of visits and workshops to Tibetan exile schools in India, teaching reading and writing skills.
