Senegalese PEN is the oldest Centre in Africa. The Centre is dedicated to raising the profile of young and new unpublished writers. It has published an anthology of young writers and actively promotes unpublished works through its publications and competitions. The Centre runs a writers’ house in Dakar, which acts as a drop-in centre and provides a focal point for the writing community as well as accommodating visiting writers. Senegalese PEN hosted the 73rd International PEN Congress in July 2007.
