December 9, 2019. PEN International, UNESCO Mexico and VIDA: Women in Literary Arts today announce a collaboration starting in 2020 as they highlight gender disparities in the literary industries in Latin America and the Caribbean. The collaboration is a crucial part of the United Nation's UNiTE campaign – 16 days of activism against gender violence.
The PEN-VIDA-UNESCO project will consist of a quantitative and qualitative count to show the participation of women writers in media, a project that responds to the PEN International Women’s Manifesto and the United Nations 2030 Agenda.
Together, PEN International and UNESCO will analyse the reality of discrimination against and marginalising of women writers in various literary spheres, aiming to create a community of writers, publishers and journalists who stand alongside us.
